Amy got more and more nervous as three o’clock approached. There was excitement twined in there and anticipation, but fear was rampant. She hadn’t been on a date in... Well, she couldn’t remember.

When they’d been kids, she and George hadn’t really dated—other than hanging out with friends, and the date nights they’d had after they’d been married hardly counted, did they? It was kind of stunning for her to realize that she hadn’t really had an honest to God first date with a man. Hence the nerves.

She had to admit, though, she’d been afraid of her attraction to Noah from the moment she’d laid eyes on him, in that sexy set of black leathers. She’d known, even then, that a man like that, like him, had the power to upend her life.

Now, after that kiss—the one still swirling in her mind, filling her with an unfamiliar but exhilarating desire—she had to explore this...thing with him. She needed it. She needed to finally move on from George, to release the past to where it belonged. But there was more to it than that.

She also wanted this. Wanted him.

However, she knew herself. She wasn’t ready to just leap into bed with him. She needed to know him a little better first. Part of her hesitation was totally logical—she was a mother and she owed it to her boys not to make mistakes. But part of her hesitation came from cold hard fear.

Her fears were rational. She was scared of giving him too much of herself and then getting hurt—but didn’t everyone embarking on a relationship, testing the waters of trust, have that fear? She’d survived the worst thing that could happen to love. Surely she could survive again, if she needed to.

And then there was the worry that when things got really intimate—and they would, she hoped—how would he react to her mom bod? She wasn’t an eighteen-year-old girl anymore; she’d given birth to two children, for pity’s sake.

Aside from that, she was a mom. She’d lived her life in that reality for six years. Was it possible after all that time to be sexy again? Not in the physical sense so much as mentally and emotionally?

When the thought flashed through her mind, she had to grin because that had not been a concern when she’d been in the throes of his kiss. Nothing had been a concern in the throes of that kiss, other than one simple urge. More.

Still, she had to acknowledge that things might be awkward at first.

Heck, things were awkward now. But still, it was a tantalizing kind of awkward.

At three, Amy flipped the sign and they shifted into final-cleanup mode. Neither one of them spoke about their impending date but kept all conversation on the topics pertaining to work. It wasn’t until they had finished everything and hung their aprons back on the pegs that he turned to her and lifted a brow.

“So...” The deep rumble of his voice resonated through her. “What now?”

She huffed a laugh.
